Ahmad Syukri: "It is true that some SMM members did not perform well academically.'' |
Dari The Mole :
KUALA LUMPUR: The student movement Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) admits that some of its members have performed badly academically.
Due to that they will put their studies on hold first while they continue to fight for academic freedom, SMM president Ahmad Syukri Abdullah told The Mole.
He said: “It is true that some of SMM members have not performed well in their studies."
"However we feel it is a small issue that is being exaggerated by certain quarters just to bring us down," he added.
Ahmad also admitted he did not perform well academically and that he will put his studies on hold to continue with his struggle with SMM for academic freedom.
He also said he could not afford to pay his RM7000 study fees for the time being.
A blog posting at Double Y stated many students who are involved in the SMM demonstration were not doing well in their academically while some had even been dismissed from public universities due to their bad results.
The blogger wrote many of students who failed at local public institutions had then joined private institutions after being awarded ‘full scholarships’ by the Selangor government.
Asked if they were being politically manipulated, Ahmad said: “I do not think that we are being manipulated by anyone.’’
He claimed nobody had approached them to seek help in spreading any political agenda.
Pemimpin Mahasiswa Aspirasi Malaysia (Aspirasi) president Mohd Shahar Abdullah when contacted said: “If what is alleged by the blogger is true, it shows that these students have been brainwashed into becoming political tools."
"This is a violation of democratic principles and the rights of the students,’’ Mohd Shahar
